Six live experiences from Shanghai's streets:
You can talk to people on the ground and ask questions on the spot.
A printable two-page workbook for the weekend. One page per day, with spot-the-detail prompts for each walk. You record your learnings live — and have clear, concrete examples to explain how digital and tech-rich China really is to anyone who asks.
You'll spend the weekend with around twenty other active people who share your curiosity, in lively conversations. We connect you afterwards (if you want to) — so you can expand your network and build your Guanxi (the Chinese concept of long-term relationship capital).
Hello from Berlin (Long) and Shanghai (Nannan).
Two cafes across the street. On-site interviews. Plus the texture of China's robotic-arm baristas — and the mindset of "automation as everyday".
Ride along on shared bike or Shanghai Metro. Plus the story of China's shared-mobility boom and the platform mindset behind it.
Quadrupeds and humanoids. Watch in action and ask your questions. Plus the mindset of consumer robotics — how showrooms became living rooms.
Small breakout rooms — share what stood out, what you'd take home, and what you'd want to know more about.
Welcome to stay and commute home through Shanghai with us.
Hello again — what stuck overnight?
Witness how leisure looks in a tier-1 city. Then a driverless ride, narrated from the inside. Plus the mindset behind autonomous trust — and how an industry gets stood up at scale.
Background stories along the way — old textile district, new AI cluster. Plus the mindset of urban transformation in fast-forward.
Order live and let a drone ship your drinks. Plus China's low-altitude economy — and the infrastructure-first mindset that makes it work.
Small breakout rooms — share what stuck across the weekend, and what you're taking with you.
Welcome to stay and commute home through Shanghai with us.
"I couldn't go to China yet — but a piece of China came to me. I spent a weekend live in Shanghai, talked to people on the ground, and walked away with a much clearer picture of how deeply digital and tech is interwoven into everyday life in China."
A trip to China costs €1,500+ — with planning the logistics, hotel, and jetlag. For €199, you spend ten hours with people who actually live there.
No. The whole workshop is in English. When we interview people on the street, we translate on the fly. Nannan is bilingual CN/EN, Long is trilingual CN/EN/DE — and both speak Shanghai dialect :)
A printable 2-page workbook you fill out during the workshop. 1 page per day, with spot-the-detail prompts for each walk. You take it home as your record.
A 30-min Zoom call before the workshop weekend — just for Active Seat participants. You tell us what you specifically want to see, ask, or explore in Shanghai (a particular topic, neighborhood, type of robot, payment system, anything). We give our best to weave your input into the live walks and theory bites — so when we walk through Shanghai, you're walking through your questions, not just our agenda. It's also a way for us to get to know each other a bit before the live weekend.
We use Zoom (link in your booking confirmation). Nannan broadcasts live from Shanghai with phone + camera; Long moderates from Berlin. Join from anywhere in the world. We test the stream beforehand and have a backup plan if the connection wobbles.
You'll get the recording within 48 hours. Both live days are self-contained. If you can only join one, you still get a full arc.
Yes — same content, same agenda, same hosts. Pick the date that fits your calendar.
Yes — we offer a team experience or watch-party discount for groups of 10+ people. Message us and we'll work out something good for everyone.
Shenzhen is only around forty years young; almost entirely modernity. Beijing is more political. Shanghai (because of its history) gives you both — old China and new China — in one weekend. Plus: it's Long's actual hometown, and Nannan has lived there for 10+ years. We know (almost) every hidden corner.
Full refund up to 14 days before the event. After that, we can transfer your spot to the next date or to someone you know.
